The Silk Road and the Darknet were fascinating, but it's over for now.
This breakdown on Gawker is really well done. The most glaring takeaway, other than his Tevas, has to be the astounding underestimation of drug sales per year. The FBI estimated the Silk Road was doing $22mil/year when it was actually facilitating more than half a billion in sales each year. A + B = The US Gov't estimates drug use at 1/25th of its actual amount. We all know that the war on drugs has failed, but here are the hard numbers to prove it. I'll also go on record as saying that I now believe El Chapo Guzman is the wealthiest person on Earth.
PS - I dream of Elon Musk buying an island for the sole purpose of hosting a private, global internet.
