Deja Vu - USC Rehires Coach

USC just announced the hiring of Lane Kiffin, I mean Steve Sarkisian.  From the looks of things, it appears USC could not convince Chris Peterson or Kevin Sumlin to take the job.  I really didn't have a lot of names to offer beyond those two, so I don't really know what I expected.  The Pete Carroll Era is determined to go on forever.  And let me be the first to break the news to the delusional masses in the Trojan Family - Ed Orgeron is gone.

Pros: Carroll thought the job should go to Sark all along, and I think we all still trust Pete's insight.  He knows the school, the conference, what the job entails, and he has recruited fairly well.  He is bringing his DC Justin Wilcox, and he has had a lot of success in a short period of time.

Cons: He is literally Lane Kiffin Redux.  He called plays at UW this season, something USC fans have grown to hate more than Cal. (Who cares about Cal anymore?)  He is going to bring with him some baggage.  His head of recruiting, Tosh Lupoi, is as dirty as anyone in college football.  And people love to tell/hate on USC, so get ready for some recruiting violations.  Our Defense was the heart & soul of the team this year, but Pendergast is now out.  I would say "out on his ass," but Lane's short leash got these guys two year guaranteed contracts.  Thus USC will essentially be paying two coaching staffs - ours and wherever Ed O lands.

This hire makes it look as if USC is not one of the top 5 head coaching jobs in college football.  That is what hurts the most.  USC's overall prestige took a hit today.
